Eligibility for Gemini access itself is set out on the Access and eligibility page. Students who already have access through a teacher, course or programme should use that access rather than applying individually.
How applications work
- Choose an opportunity and review its eligibility, participation commitment and access period.
- Submit the relevant application using your CUHK credentials, stating your learning objective.
- ITSC or the responsible programme verifies your eligibility and the available places.
- Eligible applications are processed under the published allocation rule. LinkedIn Learning and the Google Career Certificate Programme use first come, first served, with waiting lists when all places are allocated.
- Activate your place, begin learning and respond to programme communications.
- Where a participant does not activate, does not begin, does not maintain the required participation or does not respond after reminders and a grace period, the place may be withdrawn and reassigned. Relevant continued non-fulfilment may be reported to the responsible Faculty, Department or Programme for programme administration.
First come, first served and the waiting list
- Available places are allocated in the order applications are received.
- When all places are allocated, later applicants join a waiting list. No further action is needed while you are on it.
- When a place is released — because a participant withdraws or a place is reassigned — it is offered to the next applicant, so released places are reassigned in application order.
- A waiting-list place is not a guarantee of an offer. Availability depends on how many places are released and, for the Google Career Certificate Programme, on the confirmed allocation.

About reporting. Relevant continued non-fulfilment may be reported to the responsible Faculty, Department or Programme for programme administration — so that places can be reallocated and learning support offered. This reporting is not an academic, disciplinary or performance assessment, and participation information is not used to rank students.
Important distinctions
- Learning is not a licence. LinkedIn Learning access, Google Career Certificate Programme places, Gemini access, enterprise AI licences, API Portal tokens and consumption-based resources are separate arrangements with separate eligibility and approval routes.
- Completing a course, training activity or other listed learning opportunity does not unlock access. It does not automatically grant an enterprise licence, an advanced tier, an API token, a credit allocation or a consumption-based resource.
- API tokens are separate again. They are not included with an Enterprise AI licence, they are not guaranteed by completing a course or training activity, and they are governed separately from Copilot Cowork and Perplexity Computer.
- Consumption-based capabilities are under evaluation. Copilot Cowork and Perplexity Computer are being compared through demand collection. Neither is available to request.
- No general learning-linked access route exists in Phase 1. There is no learning-hour threshold to meet and no advanced-access application route based on learning. Any future opportunity would require separate approval and announced conditions.
- Course-required access is arranged by your teacher. If a service is needed for a class or an assessed activity, the teacher, course or programme should arrange access for the whole cohort. You should not need to apply individually for a required class activity.
Learning opportunities
Development and API learning
Students and project participants in approved development activities — Learning for responsible development, models, APIs, tokens, quotas and consumption awareness. Completing a course or training activity does not guarantee tokens or quota; completed learning may be considered only where an announced opportunity explicitly says so.

Students receiving or applying for Gemini under an approved route — Responsible-use guidance, onboarding and service-specific learning. Students who receive Gemini through individual application complete a short training requirement after their access is assigned; details will be announced.
To be announcedGoogle Career Certificate Programme
Undergraduate, RPG and UGC-funded postgraduate students — Structured certificate learning through the approved programme. Places are allocated first come first served, subject to confirmed availability and programme requirements.

Undergraduate, RPG, UGC-funded postgraduate and self-financed postgraduate students — Self-paced learning in AI literacy, digital capability, employability and professional skills. Places are allocated first come first served and access normally runs until 30 June.
